Not particularly more realistic than the “build a death star” petition, but wouldn’t it be nice?

I’ve said for years that if all legislators were required to do their own taxes, with no professional help, and were guaranteed to be audited by top IRS auditors every year, our tax code would be far simpler. A man can dream…

Sadly, that would not work in my country. Our top brass are not afraid of being shamed.

edit: our wishful thinking only goes as far as “let them drive in the same traffic as the rest of us”.

I don’t like this idea because we would no longer be able to easily tell the difference between democrats and republicans. :-)

Hehe - this was proposed for the UK in 2010 by Mark Thomas (The People’s Manifestio) - good to see the US catching up on it. Some of his other proposals are equally brilliant including having a wages law that doesn’t restrict minimum or maximum wages but prohibits anyone earning more than 20x any other employee and requiring anyone who wanted to ban immigration having to sign a register and being banned from travelling abroad.

and all his stuff is well worth watching especially the episode where they basically hacked the labour party conference and the one where they revealed that for an entire series the backdrop was a plan of the MI5 building, obtained freely from the council planning department.

(oh and the balloon flight over a US listening post having ascertained the rules on overflights didn’t cover balloons)
