Hey lazyweb,

I have a GPE S4 running Android 4.4.4 (latest). I set up a hotspot on the phone. Next, I have a device connect to that hotspot that I want to access from the phone, but from the phone I can’t seem to see the device. However, if I connect my Andoid tablet to the hotspot I’m running on the phone, the tablet can see the device I’m trying to talk to.

Does Android now have some sort of firewall that prevents outgoing connections from the device providing the hotspot to the devices connected to the hotspot?

I’ll happily accept a lmgtfy as I’ve tried to gtfm and all queries I have come up with lead only to myriad newbie “how to set up hotspot on your android phone” pages…

FWIW, I can set up hot spot on the phone, tell the wifi Canon camera to use this hot spot, and Canon’s Android app running on the phone can talk to the camera all right. So it is possible.

+Eugene Crosser Thanks! Which Android version? And stock Android or carrier? (This was reported working with an earlier Android version on the S4 with the skyradar DX device I’m testing.)

If I run ‘ping 192.168.43.74’ from adb shell on the phone, it works as well.

The phone is running CM11

Thanks again! I can ping the device from the S4 using “terminal emulator” so this may actually be an application issue rather than an Android issue.
