Whether or not The Hague is the appropriate venue, no consequences for those who inflict torture is no more acceptable for the soi disant leader of the free world than for despotic or authoritarian governments.

Jan Wildeboer

Dear +Barack Obama

There’s this international court of justice in The Hague that could and should take care of the people from your services that “tortured a few folks” as you called it.

And seeing how your people go bazooka on people like Snowden, Manning, Assange (and Aaron Swartz) for what they did, I expect those CIA folks that hacked into the computers of senate members will get the same treatment. Quid pro quo. Or is this another case of Quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi?[1]

Restore justice for all. Restore trust. Please.

Sincerely,

Jan Wildeboer. Citizen. Thinks transnational. Wants solutions.

Well, certainly not ICJ, which hears cases between states (e.g border disputes.)..This would be the International Criminal Court, which the U.S. still doesn’t recognize afaik.

Exactly. Poor wording on my part. I should have started “Regardless”… My point being that the question of jurisdiction should not overshadow the main point of accountability.

Michael K Johnson August 02, 2014 12:21

And silly Google+ put a hashtag for the venue on my post, helping distract from the point. Removed.

H. Peter Anvin August 02, 2014 12:30

I thin they are both in The Hague, though.

Michael K Johnson August 02, 2014 12:33

Well, they could also be held accountable under US law…

H. Peter Anvin August 02, 2014 12:36

They could, and they should… of course, what we’re seeing is kind of the reason the ICC was created.
