It’s been a long run since I wrote a couple of “Kernel Korner” articles for Linux Journal issues 1 and 2, leading to Phil asking me to be editor for about the first two years (March 1994 - June 1996). Over 23 years of Linux Journal history now…

The business pressures are obvious, and to me the surprise is how long LJ held on in a fundamentally shifting marketplace. (No, the irony of posting about this on social media does not escape me.) Best of luck to the crew!

+Michael K Johnson: How long was Carly with LJ? I think I’d bumped into her at Linux events by 1999 / 2000.

So at least 17-18 years, as I figure it.

I no longer remember whether she was already there when I started, but certainly for much of my tenure. I was working another job full time while editing LJ at first, and in the “two demanding full time jobs” (though one was officially described as part time) press I’m afraid some of the details I now remember fuzzily. But she has been there at least approximately the entire history of LJ. I think she was already working at SCC before LJ. That’s quite impressive.

+Michael K Johnson Indeed. Thanks.

And yes, this news does indeed suck.
