If Google+ does a good job of giving users control over what they want to share, then I think that at least the people I’m most likely to want to share with will end up here rather than in the cacophonous pit of facebook…

I always hoped that if I avoided facebook long enough, something better would come along. I was never convinced that it would be diaspora, though I wish them the best and am curious if they’ll ever get significant momentum. And I’d be diaspora’s target audience, really; with my own server for mail and web, it ought to be simple to set up a pod as well. But even they say “The install is a bit complex.” Google+ probably gives as much control as most people care about, and maybe I trust Google more with my data than I do a rails app…

I definitely believe I’ll share a lot more than I do on facebook. It’s lighter weight than an email or group, and more flexible than sharing to everyone. I think that facebook encourages you to be pithy, light, or referential. If something happens to me, good or bad, I can choose to share it with those people who will care - I really like that. I definitely think there are some kinks to work out with the product, but it’s off to a good start.
